Ever After Story
What is now the Ever After Theatre company, began in a coffee shop with the parent of
a young person with a disability, a worker from the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre
and a community worker from our local council.
The theatre ensemble are a local performing arts group made up of thirteen young
people. The company members have an interest in movement, drama, music
and creating self devised performances. They also have an intellectual disability.
The group was formed in 2001, and has so far delivered 12 performances to the public
in the Inner West of Sydney. They have also appeared at the Sydney corporate
headquarters of Swiss Re, the Conservatorium of music, Leichardt Town Hall and other venues.
In 2005 the company toured to Australias largest regional accessible arts festival,
the Awakenings Festival in Horsham Victoria. At the festival they performed their
group devised work "Shadows of Love"
.
The group meet weekly for workshops and rehearsals to create performances which
give shape to their ideas, experiences and creativity. Our latest project is Coming Up in Adoration, supported by the Ian Potter Foundation
. This new Australian theatre work, devised by the members of the company, explores themes of fear, identity and shared experience.
Part of the process for developing this work is workshops with professional artists, including voice tutor, Ashley Dyer.
The show is set to premiere in mid 2009, at a professional theatre.
